Mass Violence & Healthcare
The National Mass Violence Center recognizes the important role of hospitals and health systems in preparing for and responding to mass violence incidents, and helping their own workforces and their impacted community with ongoing recovery efforts that strengthen individual and collective resilience. The Health Care Leaders’ Guide to Mass Violence Preparedness, Response, Recovery and Mitigation, published by the NMVC and our partner the American Hospital Association, combines “lessons learned” from hospitals in communities that have experienced a mass violence incident (MVI), with evidence-based strategies that strengthen – not duplicate – the existing efforts of hospitals and health systems to collaboratively prepare for MVIs with community partners and strengthen response and recovery efforts. The Guide includes checklists with key actions for hospital and health system leaders; over ten tip sheets and resources with specific guidance for preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation efforts; and additional resources for further reference and support.
